Janette's BIG Dealz Shopping List 2/29-3/6

Tomorrow is a the beginning of a new month and coupon sites update their coupons at the beginning of the month.  If there are coupons that you want, make sure to print them today before they are gone.

This week I am excited about the cereal again.  I have been watching for Oreo's for a while per request of one of my kids.  Pork seems to be on a good sale this week.  I have some coupons I pulled from my boxes of Kellogg's cereal that include $1 off fruit, $2 off milk, $1 off eggs, when you buy 2 Kellogg's cereal.  I will be using my Kellogg's cereal coupons to cut the prices of the cereal and then use the coupons for the other items, fruit, milk, eggs, to maximize my savings.

I have included a link for the $10 rebate for a gas card when you save 10 UPC symbols from select Kellogg's cereal.  Make sure to click the link, read it, print it out, and buy accordingly to maximize your savings.  If you receive a rebate it would be like getting your cereal for free, some you may even make  money on.

Janette's Big Deals Shopping List 2/22/12-2/28/12

After talking to my friend Lindsey yesterday we had both been a little disappointed with some of the deals that have been available.  As the price of gas goes up so does the price of food, even more reason to use a coupon when you can, but I digress.  Looking back on the month we have been able to get some great deals on cereal, produce, chicken, pizza, along with other deals I am sure I have forgotten.  This weeks ad is not stacked with many things to use a coupon with, but there are a few.  I especially anxious to hit Baker's this week to see what price the 50% off makes the cereal, especially when combined with coupons.  I am hoping for a great price there!  I have been craving kiwi so I am also anxious for those.  I plan to make two trips this week, one to Baker's for the cereal since places to price match an ad that state 50% off with no price, and then I will do the remainder of my shopping at I am thinking Fareway or Walmart where I will price match the rest.  I will need to pick up some extra's this week, but because I have spent under $40 each week in my grocery shopping thus far this month, I have plenty of money in my budget things that I have been putting off, namely I need to make sure to get some pasta.

Whatz the BIG deal about TLC's series, Extreme Couponing

Extreme Couponing: An Extreme Disappointment

February 13, 2012.

The Coupon Information Corporation (CIC) expresses its continued disappointment with TLC's series, Extreme Couponing. Last May, the CIC offered our expertise to assist TLC and Sharp Entertainment (which produces the show) in enhancing the program with more accurate and realistic information concerning the activities portrayed on the show. Neither TLC nor Sharp Entertainment responded to CIC's offer.
Late last year, Consumer Advocate Jill Cataldo alerted CIC to the allegation that TLC aired a program featuring a minor using counterfeit coupons to purchase several hundred dollars worth of a product.
CIC reviewed the situation and confirmed that a minor had indeed used counterfeit coupons on the show.
We also learned that after the store had been denied payment for the counterfeit coupons and it contacted the show, the minor's mother repaid the store for the product that was "purchased" with the counterfeit coupons.
Unfortunately, none of this was ever aired on the show or otherwise disclosed to viewers of Extreme Couponing. Indeed, to our knowledge, the original, unedited episode featuring the use of counterfeit coupons by the minor is still being aired in its original format.
After confirming the facts, the CIC engaged in a number of communications with Discovery Communications (the parent company of TLC). The CIC suggested that Discovery Communications take the following actions to help rectify the situation:
  1. Deletion of the episode from all corporate websites and other forums with public access and a prohibition from re-airing the episode featuring the minor
  2. A statement reviewing the facts of the situation, focusing on "turning the page" and moving forward with new controls to be aired as part of another episode and posted on corporate websites associated with the show.
  3. Retention of an independent industry expert to insure the integrity of future episodes, with a commitment to following all laws and rules pertaining to couponing.
To our knowledge, as of this date, neither Discovery Communications, TLC, nor Sharp Entertainment, have implemented any of our recommendations or taken any other actions to address the situation.

Price Matching

We seem to be getting a few questions about price matching and what stores do it, and what they will price match. I thought it might be helpful to explain it a little bit.  Price matching is where a store will match the price of a an item that has been advertised at a different store.  It is an effective way to save money especially when you stack coupons on top of the price matching.  It saves time, gas, and money.

Which stores in Omaha price match? Click on the links below for full policies.  I recommend that you print them out and keep them with your coupons, along with a coupon policy.

Walmart:
We gladly match the price in the following types of ads:*
  • Buy one, get one free ads with a specified price
    • Example: Buy one for $2.49, get one free (BOGO)
  • Competitors' ads that feature a specific item for a specified price.
  • Preferred shopping card prices for specific items that are in a printed ad.
  • For fresh produce and meat items when the price is offered in the same unit type (lb. for lb.; each for each)
*The following are guidelines and limitations:
  • We will match any local competitor's advertised price.
  • We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor's ad.
  • Items purchased must be identical to the ad (size, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc.)
Price Match Policy
Coupon Policy

HyVee
Stonybrook is the only location I am aware of that does price match.  Ask for a copy at the customer service desk.  They will price print ads, that must be presented at check stand.  They will only price match name brand, no store brands or private labels. They will not price match an ad that says celery $.77, however they will price match it if it says "Dole" celery, brand for brand match.

Fareway
Fareway has neither their coupon policy nor price match policy online, but you should be able to get them at the store if you ask a manager for one.  If not they will be able to tell you where to get one.

Here's what I know.  They will price match for same brand, size and quanity.  They don't honor other stores in-store coupons.  They often will price match their produce and meat to reflect competitors prices.  Ads much be presented at check out stand.

No Frills

No Frills will price match or ad match same product and same size.  You can match other store brands with their store brands.  They will not match produce, or lower grade meat.  They do BOGO only if the price and size is listed.  They will not price match % off items.

Super Saver
Super Saver will price match the same product and the same size.  They do not price match No Frills ads and they don't do Aldi's prices.  You will need to ask for a ad match policies at customer service or talk to manger.

I have never price matched at Target, I know they do it, and I have an email out to get a hold of both their ad match and coupon policies.  I will update this when I get them.  Until then, I hope that this has helped a little.

Janette's BIG Deals Shopping List

What is catching my eye this week are the deals on fresh fruits and vegetables, and the chicken.  I am not as impressed with coupon match ups.  It is a great time to match up some of your coupons with the clearance seasonal Valentines items.  Our Grocery List our a great guideline to get you started on your own list.  Add the things that you need on top of the list.  Before you know it you will have built yourself a nice little stockpile and won't need to buy as often items that aren't on sale.
